Registering for Undergraduate Courses as a Non-degree Student
How to get information about courses
For schedule information about courses being offered, use our course search engine. To see descriptions of courses, select the program that interests you from our listing of academic programs. Course descriptions are listed under the "Courses" link for each program.
Course descriptions and information about prerequisites are also available in the UMass Boston "Undergraduate Catalog," which you can obtain by calling 617-287-6000. You can also obtain this catalog at the university (go to the Admissions office, Campus Canter Upper Level). You may also obtain this information on the web by clicking here.
When to Register
August 18th, 2008 through September 9th, 2008
Walk-in registration, WISER self service, and academic advising, will be available during the following periods:
- Monday - Thursday, 9 am - 6 pm
- Friday, 9 am - 4 pm
Late registration is possible (for information, see the Late Registration section below), but a far wider selection of courses will be available if you register on time -- the earlier, the better.
How and Where to Register
Walk-in Registration
Come to the One Stop, which is on the upper level of the Campus Center, during the registration period (see the dates and hours above). The staff will give you detailed information about registration, courses, and locations, as well as the appropriate forms. (Please also see Payment Information for Non-Degree Students).
Academic Advising
We encourage you to visit or telephone the university during the regular, non-degree registration period for academic advising before you register (see the dates and hours above). Advising can be particularly important because many courses have prerequisites that students must meet before enrolling. Come to the One Stop to meet with an advisor and discuss your course selections and your academic plans. We recommend that you bring unofficial transcripts from any colleges you have attended.
Before You Register
Be sure to read the Important Regulations and Requirements for Non-Degree Students on this Web site.
Late Registration for undergraduate non-degree students
Late registration will be possible from September 2nd, 2008 through September 9th, 2008 To register for undergraduate courses, come to the One Stop. For registration period hours, please call 617-287-6200. The staff will give you detailed information about registration, courses, and locations, as well as the appropriate forms.
Please Note:
The information above applies to most courses offered at the UMass Boston campus. Additional courses and sections, most of them offered at off-campus locations, and at UMass Boston on Friday evenings and Saturdays, are administered by the University's Division of Corporate, Continuing, and Distance Education (CCDE). They are like other UMass Boston courses and sections in terms of their substance, faculty, and relationship to degree requirements, but the registration procedures, charges, and dates for them differ somewhat. For more information, see the CCDE Web site.
